Today’s Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/business/news/e3i1f048e311710f2fbcf5562a34cf67970) is reporting that US Rep Howard Berman would like to take over the Chairmanship of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, a position left open with the passing of the late Tom Lantos. Such a shift would mean that the top Democrat on the Intellectual Property Subcommittee would be US Rep Rick Boucher (D-VA). Boucher, in the words of the Reporter’s Brooks Boliek, “Next in line is Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., who has been one of the copyright industry's biggest foes, taking the side of consumer electronics makers and other traditional detractors.”
Boucher may keep his Chairmanship of the Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality, which has a direct impact on Virginia. If Boucher stays put the next Democrat in line is Jerry Nadler who represents the Upper West Side of Manhattan, which is good news for the copyright industry.
