A measure reaffirming "the FCC's authority to penalize television stations for 'fleeting' utterances of profanity or unscripted displays of sexual images" passed the Senate Commerce Committee yesterday on a voice vote - neither the vote nor the outcome was a surprise. It is unclear if the bill will get to the floor of the Senate for a vote (if it does it will probably pass, no one wants to be the standard bearer for swearing in front of children). But it is unlikely that a similar measure will go anywhere in the House, which means that there is no real risk of this becoming law.
This vote comes on the heels of Commerce Committee hearing on violence on television in which there was broad agreement that violent TV is bad, but there isn't a clear practical and constitutional solution to it.
