Where does one start when the manuscript is finished, registered with the Writers Guild West, and one seeks to hand the manuscript to a producer of an existing TV series?
The producer of the series uses a pool of writers and is a member of this Caucus. Any pointers would be appreciated. |

There is not Rosetta Stone to get a writer from Wannabe to Pro. But there are a few things you can do.
You can send query letters (easier now that we have e-mail) to every literary agent and manager in Hollywood. Use every contact you have, even if it's an apprentice prop person or a studio caterer, to get your material into the hands of someone who can move it up the food chain. Most important, rather than wait around for somethng to happen, start your next project. Agents and managers will want to know that you'[ve got more arrows in your quiver than the script they have in hand. Lastly, look to some writer-centric blogs like artfulwriter.com, wordplayer.com and johnaugust.com for career advice and helpful tips. Good luck. |

One more comment...
It is highly unlikely that an existing series will buy a spec script from anyone, Pro or Wannabe. The value of your script is more as a writing sample for other shows than it is for the show you targeted to spec. |
